Paul Spiegel, P.E., LEED AP, President
Paul is the founder and President of Practical Energy Solutions. Paul has been involved in building and facility evaluations for more than 20 years, providing services for school districts, real estate developers, municipalities, private and public universities, and other major facility owners. He was a project manager or principal during the design and/or construction of the following large-scale commercial projects:

Paul is a visionary who believes in the power of people to change their environment. His motivational education & awareness programs have proven to reduce energy consumption 10-15% in commercial buildings. He combines his top-notch analytical skills with his extensive expertise in energy auditing, rate analysis, and building construction to provide a level of personal service that is second to none.
Paul's commitment also extends to the broader community. He is a Senior Member of the Association of Energy Engineers, a Business Associate Member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO), and a member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, The Sustainable Business Network of Philadelphia and the Smart Energy Initiative. He has also served his community as Chairman of the West Goshen Planning Commission. Recently, he joined the ASTM Building Energy Performance Disclosure Task Force.
Jeffrey D. Byrne, Director of Business Development
Jeff has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry working with university and healthcare business managers and financial directors. He combines his financial expertise with ENERGY STAR, Green Building Council, Association of Energy Engineers, and BOMA training to customize our services and ensure that each PES proposal represents a sound business decision for each and every PES customer.
Jeff also focuses his talents on business development, client relationships, customer service and partnership building. He brings a strong vision of integrity and positive growth to our firm—so we will continue to be here for you.
Dianne Herrin, LEED AP, Program Manager
Dianne brings to PES a strong personal commitment to the business of energy conservation and environmental stewardship. She is founder and Chair of West Chester Borough’s nationally recognized BLUER Committee, which has performed a community-wide greenhouse gas inventory, established a CO2 reduction goal, and is now implementing a Climate Action Plan for the community. As President of Moms for the Future, she championed the successful effort to convert school buses in 5 Chester County districts to a B20 biodiesel fuel blend. She also served as Co-Chair of the West Chester Area School District Community Budget-Utilities Task Force. Dianne brings her passion and vision to nearly every aspect of the PES business—including LEED-EB certification projects, education & awareness initiatives, energy/CO2 tracking, grant writing, and marketing/press/communications efforts. Dianne is a trained technical journalist and spent 10 years managing her own specialized communications firm. She has her LEED accreditation, with a specialty in Operations & Maintenance of Existing Buildings (LEED-EB/OM), and is a member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council.
Justin S. Murray, CEA, Project Manager
Justin is an Association of Energy Engineers’ Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) and has more than 6 years of experience in civil & wastewater engineering and environmental/conservation work. He has performed construction oversight and inspection of various public works facilities and has a solid working knowledge of building systems. Justin has top-notch engineering and mathematical skills, and he also possesses excellent communications skills and strategic capabilities—all which serve to produce superior energy assessment services for PES clients. Earlier in his career, Justin was a full-time AmeriCorps service member in New Hampshire, where he designed and taught an original, highly successful 12-week environmental education curriculum to multiple schools in the Manchester area. He is formally educated in environmental science and civil and construction engineering.
